Ruger1980 Thanks for those pics from Trigg.
In warmer weather, I think I will try to rebuild these chains so that the side chains pass neatly between the lugs on the way to the tightening chain, as I think you are suggesting. Is there a link available to the Trigg photos info you have posted?
For now, based on suggestions of others, I have upped my game on the tensioning and it seems to be working. See attached pic. The spring tensioner suggested by others is hard for me to buy in my area, so I made up this thing with 3 bottle screws. Put them on in the dark and cold so not very evenly spaced, but they are working.

This is their website. It has some help info but not much and not easy to find. The info I have downloaded is mainly for the SMT chains which is not what you have. I would make sure which chains you have before going too far. You can email the questions but they ar very slow to respond. It took me a few times and a fellow from Canada finally emailed me and answered some of my questions.

I've had issues with tire chains that are too narrow - never with ones that are too wide. Start with an inner that is nice and tight, make the outer nice and tight, then tighten it again.
