Just how many RPMs should I run my new BX25 at? Should I run it at different throttle speeds depending on the type of work I'm doing?
Thanks,

I agree. PTO equipment is designed to operate at the rated RPM so they will work properly. If you run at a lower rpm you are not only lugging the tractor engine but also putting unwanted strain on the emplement as well. The main thing to remember no matter what the task at hand is not to lug the tractor. If it's lugging you are creating heat and causing wear.I was taught that with any tractor you run at maximum governed rpm to get the power and the correct rpm's for any moving (pto) equipment. Then you select the driving gear or speed to suit the load and terrain.
I don't like lugging any engine. I would rather have it turning happily a few rpm's higher than needed, instead or straining to do the work.
Of course, moving from place to place is totally different from actually working - then you can run in top gear at lower rpm.
