Thinking about going from B2601 to L series

That was a handy video. Thank you. I definitely have a long gravel driveway to learn how to grade, as well as some additional ground engagement work on the acreage I want to open up for more pasture. Sounds ike adding the rear-remotes might not be a bad idea? Looks like the minimum you want is two. Does that sound right?

I think I am going to go back and order the tractor this week. I’m just going back and forth on the BH92. $13k is a lot of money for mini-ex rentals or even 1/2 the cost of a decent used one. Well, maybe less than 1/2, but you know what I mean. I just found a place about 5 min from me that rents an 8k lb Takeuchi for $375/day or $1200/wk. in theory, I could always add a BH92 later if I really needed it, right? I probably couldn’t get the same 0% financibg, but I’d be ok with that. I think out of the gate, I would get a lot more use out of a grapple and a brush-hog.

As others have mentioned, rear remotes are very useful in that you can add a top and tilt to your three point. This comes in extremely handy when utilizing 3 point implements such as a rear blade, box blade, or land plane to manage your gravel driveway. I originally purchased my tractor with 2 rear remotes. I effectively added a third by adding a hydraulic multiplier from Summit as I needed a 3rd hydraulic remote for my sickle bar mower.

You will definitely get more use out of your grapple and your Bush-hog than the BH92. As you said, you should be able to add it later. Another thing to consider is where you are going to store it when it is off your tractor. Mine sits in a corner of my garage until the barn gets built on a two piece dolly. Moving a 2000 pound implement around, even on a dolly does take a significant amount of effort. That said, after digging a three foot hole in 85 degree weather for 2 hours through rocky soil utilizing a San Angelo bar and a hand held post hole digger for a security camera while we were building our house, I swore I would never dig another hole by hand on this property- lol.

It is interesting that someone from New Jersey uses that term…. San Angelo is a small city in Texas in a rocky area of the state and I have always ASSUMED that is why they are called San Angelo bars. But why do you call it that?

couple more things I would offer:

I have a BH92. I did not need it when I bought it, and I dont need it now. I foresee using it in the future as a hydraulic arm and shovel though. However I wanted it and in my situation I would buy it all over again. I like having immediate access to it. In my situation I live 4 hrs from 2 of my properties where I mainly use the MX…in that case I am at mercy of weather and ground condition when I get there so it limits when I can accomplish things and I don’t want to screw around with renting something. If I lived there I would rather rent a real BH. Personally I would rather have the BH on my B than my MX and then either pay a pro for a big task or rent one. But honestly I think I’d rather save multiple items up and pay a pro. That being said on the few times I have used the BH it’s maybe the most enjoyment per dollar vs doing the task manually from any implement. It’s really like being a kid in a sand box again. They are awesome. Very enjoyable. Unless you plan to pimp yourself out and make some side money, IMO they don’t make financial sense on paper. I would probably want to have a backho regardless but would opt for it on a smaller machine.

as far as the rear remotes. I have three and would not do less if I were planning to get them at all. I have a hydraulic top link which is a game changer if pairing with a QH…if not I would likely not add that again as it’s a pain to hook up versus just using a turn buckle when not using a QH….i really like it with QH though. As far as implements I am using with a dump wagon, a back blade with hydraulics, and soon a rake with hydraulics. Personally I like the added flexibility actions and being able to trim and adjust implements from the seat.

regarding a post hole digger, if you have 3rd function on your loader you might consider a auger up front before putting on the back IMO…that L should have more than enough flow to run an auger up front. Not sure that makes a difference but if that the only implement for hydraulics it would make me question needing the rear remotes. I do think top and tilt would be handy with box blade or plan or anything that you hook up with a QH.

As I have always understood it, even here in New Jersey, that's just the name of the tool. I think you are correct as far as the derivation of the name. All I know is, at the time I was digging that hole when a motorized post hole digger went nowhere, that thing was the best invention since sliced bread.

Thanks. One thought might be that if they are going to offer me less than the $13k it costs for the BH92 on my B2601 (which has a BH) that I consider keeping that ? Unfortunately, until my shop gets built, and then my equipment shed (in that order) I really don’t have a place to store two tractors. Even the BH92 would be a challenge to remove at this point as I don’t have a nice paved service to fo that. And there is no room in my garage to store that either.

My dealer said almost exactly that, when they tried talking me out of it.

I’m glad I didn’t listen to him.

I love having a BH at the ready, 24/7/365.

No need to call, set up a pick up time, drive to get it, then offload it, then use it for 4 hours……Then wash it, then load it back up, then drive it back, then wait for them to inspect it…….Hell, thats a whole day shot right in the ass.

Too much BS for me personally.

Now when I need it, I just back it up and use it……..Done!

I know it's alot of money, there is no denying that.

But to me personally, it’s worth every penny…..actaully, I have found so many uses for it, I wouldn't buy a tractor without one.

While I don't have a BH for my Kubota, I do on my Massey Ferguson ... I don't need to be on level ground to hook or unhook my BH, just get lined up with it close enough to hook the hydraulic lines to it, then I can adjust the "3 legged stool" with the hydraulics to make the hook up complete, is the Kubota system different?

And I agree, that I'm glad to have a BH sitting at the ready to use, takes me less than 15 minutes to switch out to start digging!

So I reached out to my salesperson (on Highway 31) and asked for a quote on the L4760 cab with the 1055 loader, BH92, hyd thumb, air ride, grapple, pallet forks, and brush hog. I thought by dropping back to the 4760, I could get this closer to my projected budget, but am not sure they can get me a 4760 cab. I kinda like the idea of a N/A engine, but we’ll see.

I also think I would probably get an EA Grapple, but just wanted to compare costs.

lol. I don’t have it yet, and I know that hyd thumb is an additional $4k, so I have that marked as a ‘nice to have’ but that may have to come later. Same goes for brush hog. I figured I’d ask for the quote on everything and then peel things off it exceeds the budget.

My, sounds like your salesperson is really earning their pay. How many quotes on different tractors have you requested so far? Lol

They will start to blow you off as a 'windbag' and stop giving you much attention. Unless you bring in donuts and coffee for everyone when you show up.

There comes a time when we all must make an informed decision and stick to it.

Tractors are expensive. Integrity is priceless.

Decide and buy it. Then show us the pictures and projects.

Many people on here have given you advice. You have that knowledge. Choose wisely.

lol. Well, this salesman only gave me one quote (for the L6060) so I don’t feel bad asking him how much less is the 4760 cab would be. The other quotes I got for the MX and 4060 were from a different dealer.
