I bought my vintage L185 in 2005 and since day one it leaked oil around the gear shift entry into the transmission case. My FIL , while my tractor was on loan 8 years, replaced the seal once but the problem returned shortly thereafter. I learned here of the question mark shaped transmission vent under the seat on the left hand side, and found that yes, it was badly clogged up. A copper wire pick, WD40, and high pressure air cleared it out.
Thanks from me to all the good people here for contributing to the body of knowledge shared freely.

Equipment
L1500DT, front end loader, mower, tiller, snow blower
That tractor reminds me of my bride as it gets better with age!

My bota is banged up, leaky, bent and has a duct taped seat!

Your FIL treated that girl like it was his own.

Dayam that sure is Purdy!

Thanks for the kind words. Long ago,my daddy bought a new 4WD B6100 in 1976 from Parish Implements ($2750 with a factory FEL and rear tiller) in downtown Louisville, KY for our farm in Breckinridge County. With 12 throbbing diesel HP she was amazing. I wish I had her too, but times and life changed when Daddy passed away and the farm had to be sold.
This L185 has a lot of meaning for me now and may end up on a strip of land one day with one of my children. In the meantime she will serve as a conversation piece after a few mechanical repairs and new paint. I'll drive her around the neighborhood proudly. Don Sterchi
