I figured I’d share this so if anybody runs into this problem in the future, it’s in the archives.
I was happily mowing along and the engine bogged down like the mower deck got into an ant hill or something. I quickly disengaged the blade PTO (electric clutch) and moved to a freshly mowed patch and cut the blades back on. Same thing. I inspected the blades, there was no obstruction and they turned freely. Started the mower back up, cut blades on, same thing, engine bogged down and died. I put the mower up planning on tearing into it this weekend. Tonight after work I had planned on spreading some grass seed as rain is in the forecast tomorrow. I lifted the seat to get the hitch pin so I could hook up the spreader. I discovered that a 3/4” bolt that went missing when I was working in the shed with my 3 year old was under there, and it had skinned a wire coming from a fuse holder, blowing the fuse. A little electrical tape and a 3amp fuse, all is well.
After six years of ownership, I never even noticed there was a fuse under the seat, let alone knew what it did.
