Sorry, doesn't seem very humane way to deal with them. I know they are pests and very destructive, but that wasn't really a clean way to kill them. Perhaps more humane than poisoning them. I think the area traps and shooting them is about the most humane way I've heard of.

If you've ever been badly burned or in / around an explosion you would understand why doing that on purpose is wrong on so many levels!

In most states that would put you in Jail for animal cruelty, wild or not they are still animals that should be put down humanely.

Made me kind of sick to my stomach to think our society thinks this is normal and You tube allows people to post such stupidity / insanity.

Well, I don't think we've 'fallen' to this level, I think it is always there. When you don't see something as 'anything' it's easy to fall prey to this stuff. So I can't quite call them not human, it's an entirely human thing to do. It is not HUMANE which to your point would be killing them in a quick and respectable fashion that doesn't induce a lot of pain and suffering or fear.

Does a suicide bomber care about the carnage they cause? No, or they wouldn't do it. They get the humane death, their victims get the death like these hogs got. So, this is, as was said, redneck hijinks and like you, I too feel is was beyond the pale. Youtube will likely pull it down eventually due to complaints.

To someone that likely kills dozens of these hogs a season, it's probably not a big deal mentally. To those of us that don't do that kind of killing it's more intense emotionally. I won't call these people names but I don't agree with what they are doing.

I agree with Wolfman on this one. If it was hunting, and a good clean kill, then no worries. But that was disturbing on so many levels.

It is disturbing to say the least. Hunting and a clean kill. The only way. Thought they was good eating?
We have no such problem around here, did 20 years ago, but they were legal to shoot as long as you had a big game licence. Took a few years to get the 20 or so that escaped from a farm.

So i watched a video a while back, HeliHoggin. It was a 50 cal from a helicopter. The shooter and big bore rifle were a lethal combination.

True that brother! I would think two fellows with AR's could have dispatched the whole herd in a short time?

Texas is being overrun in several areas with feral hogs. It's quite the problem.

I can see the attempt at a creative solution here but unless it dropped all those hogs instantly with no follow up suffering, it is not what I would condone at all.

It really depends on where they are getting there food. Got a couple one year here in arkansas where they were getting into some corn feeders for deer. They were good. Following year I got one in a swampy area in florida. Fried up a couple of chops, took one bite and cleaned the rest of the meat out of the freezer and tossed it. Wasn't spoiled, but man you could taste the muck

Sorry if I offended any. It was passed on to me, and I guess I didn't think much about it, as there were shots afterwards, where he was picking off the stragglers. Point with feral hogs is, that the meat is not edible, and one shot will kill one, and the others scatter, and become more educated. Pigs are smart, I used to raise them. It would not surprise me if the ones that escape would learn to recognize the smell of tannerite, as a danger signal...

Out there in feral hog country, they do serious damage to crops, and a pissed off farmer has to use smarts, not money, and ain't to likely to worry about city people's scruples, when he's fighting for a living...

Yup, very cruel. I would not use that method, but if I did, I would have semi-auto on hand put them out of their misery quickly- not poke around & take all day to finish them off as this guy apparently did.

RANT ON:

Feral hogs are another example of why silencers should not require "taxing." You should be able to go down and buy a can for your firearm and use it.

The lefties have tried to push "gun noise" as a reason to prohibit firearms in AZ forest. So, the state legislature took up a move to allow the purchase of silencers without federal taxation "to quiet our forest for those sensitive to noise."

The lefties went berserk.

Just like Hillary after the San Bernardino shooting, saying, "We need MORE gun laws!" One armed citizen ran towards the shooting and caught the people escaping and was able to ID their Suburban. They were long gone when the cops got there. Sorry for the rant but I am tired of politicians offering more "big government" solutions to a problem big government cannot solve.

RANT OFF.

I said as much but I feel we do need to reflect on how we treat animals. We created the Feral Hog problem ourselves and we're smart enough to fix it in a humane way.

I get the video and the approach, but it's not something we should be proud of as people. There was suffering there that didn't need to be. If they had said "Tried this, didn't work as expected, moving on to something better. Don't repeat the test..." it would have a different feel to it.

We should not waste the meat either, even if we don't eat it, pets will. There are other products from the animals as well, so whatever process is used to cull the hogs, it should keep the animals useable and not waste them.

The area traps, lure them into an area in a fashion they can't escape from, and then shooting them appears to be relatively effective and gives some useful rifle time for hunters. If a farmer is having this hog issue, they can build a couple of the traps and dispatch the hogs regularly without causing suffering. Seems a better way to me, but pricey given ammo costs. Tannerite isn't cheap to make either.
