while driving my L4400HST down the road the steering wheel slowly kept turning to the left it made several revolutions before I made it to my destination. the tractor goes down the road fairly straight. I haven't noticed any external leaks and the tractor seems t be responsive when I turn the wheel .I wondered if this is normal

Since I don’t know your tractor, I’m honestly making a wild guess that it could be an internal leakage issue in your hydrostatic steering cylinder. There’s other possible problems too.

kubotabooks.com has many Workshop Manuals (WSM). Get one for your tractor.

Also the kubota website has illustrated parts diagrams, and they can be helpful to figure out how the steering system is put together.
