Folks-I'm new to the forum but have helpful information.

I have read many posts concerning starting problems and possible causes.

My B1700 HST would sporadically not start. I found that jiggling the speed selector lever on the left fender (Rabbit - Neutral - Turtle) would enable starting.

The culprit was a neutral safety switch located under the seat that is mechanically activated when the speed lever is moved to the "Neutral" position.

The solution is very easy. The switch is completely adjustable- 2 nuts turn on the threaded barrel of the switch barrel.

In my case, the switch was not being completely depressed by the mechanical arm attached to the speed lever. All that was required was adjusting the switch position by loosening the upper nut and tightening the bottom nut.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Access and adjustment is easier if you remove the left rear tire.

I hope this helps some of you.
