in the event I need to purchase a starter for my L3800, where is a good place? The Kubota dealer wanted $600 which I think is just a little steep....

Any suggestions?

Find a local electric shop that will rebuild it. they probably rebuild starters, alternators, and other things of similar fashion. we always had great results and way cheaper than new. everything from big diesel trucks, equipment, even hondas.

Pull the numbers of the starter, theres a good chance you can source a rebuilt one for much less than 600. Problem is you forfeit warranty to keep a spare on the shelf, plus core if you dont provide one.

I can get you a new one. Aftermarket for quite a bit less.

I will check with my supplier in the morning. And let you know pricing

But 1970cs may give you better peace of mind and warranty if needed down the track. Plus it's from someone offering good free advice on the forum.
Ebay is good for some things, it's sometimes a balancing act, I don't know the seller, their after sales may be excellent?
