I recently replaced a bad bearing on the end of blower driveshaft that drives the number 60 chain. When I adjusted the chain with 1/2” play I checked it by manually turning the auger in direction of rotation a complete revolution checking tension at 12 o'clock, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock and it was 1/2” all the way around.
Used for 1 hour and checked again and it seemed a little loose So I snugged it a little bit.
Used today for another hour and seemed loose but I ran for a minute after cleaning snow out of blower before storing in the barn. Re-checked chain and it was snug. Rotate auger and it loosen’s at 6 o’clock and tightens at 9, 12 and 3 o’clock.
I had checked auger bearings with a 2x2 with chain removed up and down and in and out and didn’t feel any play.
Is it possible that the drive gears for the chain are worn or is this the nature of the beast?
I bought used in 2018 and meticulously grease all fittings and oil the chain every 4 hours. I had noticed the chain tension issue years ago and didn’t think much about it until the bearing went bad and made an assumption it was an issue with the bearing I just replaced.
thanks

hmm used in 2018, so at least 8 winter of use. Any idea how old it really is ?What kind of use ? a few ,fluffy small driveways of use or a great many, wet snow, 10 country driveways every year for 10-12 years ?
Yes, it's easy to see how the sprockets and chain wear. I USED a snowblower for 7 'heavy winters', oiled every use, replaced chain ,guides and sprockets due to wear. It then ran like a new machine.
FWIW ,All the guys I know with motorcycles replace chain and BOTH sprockets when required, never just the chain.
