I sharpened my extra set of blade and pit them on and I was looking that the ones I took off,, and one blade the one on the discharge side was split, cracked, right where the blade curves up. Doesnt look like it has been hit with anything, so has anyone else seen this or heard of the blade spitting? Yes I am going to replace the set of blades, but I have never seen one to that before

I have seen this before, but the blade looked like it was around in the civil war - seemed to be that old. Metal fatigue perhaps?

under a rock
Reminds me of my neighbor

Every Saturday morning he is out there with his garden tractor sharpening up the rocks in the yard...

One day he comes walking over with three blades
They were so small they looked like edger blades

Instead of buying new blades for the machine he wanted to see if I could weld extensions on the end.

lmao.

Some people I’ll tell you....

When you sharpen your mower blades you are suppose to rotate their location on the deck. The discharge side has more material going over it and wears faster the the center of the far side.

Just a tidbit most never thought of! Don't know if it is a measurable difference, but engineer types study things in "detail", and that's what they say.

Also, humans are creatures of habit. I mow the edge of my driveway, never blowing clippings onto the gravel. So the right outer blade sees more gravel than the rest i would think. I do hear it pick up the stones before i pick deck up a notch.
