Looking for advice. All I use the PTO for on my L tractor is to drive a finish mower. The land is lumpy and you cant stick a shovel in the dirt without hitting a stone or a boulder. When I mow I usually have to get off the tractor to pick up stones put them in the bucket, the winter pushes them up out of the ground.

I believe that if I hit a stone with the mower the belt should slip but debating if I should add a PTO slip clutch as additional protection.

well they are cheap, easy to install and add another level of protection so little reason not to put one in place if you think your situation is dangerous to damaging your drive line.

Never had one, but as MLF said, it would be another fuse to blow ahead of damaging other parts. From what I've read, those clutches need at least some maintenance or they just become added weight to the driveline.

The belt is a very effective slip clutch.
