I am working on a 2021 SVL97-2 Compact Track Loader that has a fire in the engine compartment. It appears the fire source was the positive battery cable grounding out at an wire stay. I have several things i am looking for help with on this.
1. the current parts list gives the battery cable part number V0631-53242. There is also information that this replaces a previous part number V0631-53240. Can anybody tell me why and when the part number was replaced? And more specifically, did the 2021 models come with the V0631-53242 or V0631-53240 original from the factory?
2. What is the temperature ratings on the cables?
3. What is the cable insulation type?
Thanks for any help.

IMO you needn't be concerned as long as wire gauge is equal or larger than original.

There is no way we could tell you anything that your looking for.
Kubota routinely changes parts and when they do is rarely documented.

When I look up that model's parts I only see it ever had the V0631-53242 cable, no reference to the other older cable.
The other cable was used in the SVL95-2's which is an older model.

Also looking at how that cable mounts to the stay, it sounds very odd that it would short out there.

Sounds like 'someone' should have had a 'primary' fuse at the battery post....fires are nasty, costly and can be minimized to minor damage.

re: #2..higher than 'standard operating environment temperature'
re: #3...usually PVC

The actual specs can be seen once the manufacturer and their product information is found. The cables could have 'regular, off the shelf' specs or be a specific type of PVC, if Kubota told them to make it to their specs.
Just have Kubota order the official Kubota part, and you'll be fine.

all manufacturers often change part numbers and they never (or rarely) tell anyone why

I've seen them change a part number cause the original number was too confusing

I've seen them change a number because they got it from a different vendor

I've seen them change a number because they got it cheaper from a different place, or was cheaper to make it (if they make it in-house)

I've seen em change a number because the packaging that it comes in, was changed (for shipping purposes)

I've seen em change a number because they changed the color of it. Maybe they liked black instead of charcoal. They never say why, just said they changed the color.

The information you are asking for is not known to anyone but the bean counters and good luck getting any information out of them. What I just stated is 30+ years of dealing with manufacturers reps. That info it extremely rare. Most of it came from Yamaha reps (motorsports) and from bulletins such as product reliability improvements. If it was a safety issue, the manufacturer would have issued a safety bulletin aka "recall". If you are concerned about that, you can call Kubota directly and discuss it with them directly. You may get information, or you may not. Still worth a call.

Can anyone tell me what the engine oil operating temperature range should be?
Can anyone tell me what the turbocharger temperature range should be?

Regarding the #2 question, most battery cables are manufactured to the J1127 specification of -40F to 175F. There are some specialized cables that run to around 260F. The higher temp cables use silicon seething rather than PVC.

re: oil and turbo temps..
get the owner's manual !!!! as well, the WSM ( WorkShop Manual) if you're doing service to the machine.
I don't know if that machine has a digital dash and numbers for temperature (*C , *F ) or just the 'normal' analog gauge.
Oops.. I was thinking WATER temperature......not OIL temperature. Unlikely it has a sensor/gauge for oil temperature. Last vehicle I saw that did was a '57 Willys pickup. Hmm, wonder if the WSM has a spec ?

My Corvette Z06 displays oil temperature, around 290 is where it goes into protection mode. I would expect the Kubota stays below that temperature.

The Kubota has a oil to coolant heat exchanger so it should stay pretty close to engine coolant temperature. Shooting the sump with an infrared will provide a reasonable measurement of oil temp.

Can anyone tell me what the engine oil operating temperature range should be?
Oil temp varies based on WHERE it the engine it is measured. Assume average to be about same as cooling-system thermostat. Oil draining from turbocharger may be the hottest oil in the engine.

Can anyone tell me what the turbocharger temperature range should be?
The exhaust gets HOT. Turbochargers get HOT when engine is heavily loaded for hours. (mowing, plowing...etc) I have seen over 1000F degrees EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) entering the turbine.

Infact: EGT is an important metric for many folks. One phenomena is the temperature ENTERING the turbo is actually higher than at the exhaust-ports of the engine. In the end, the EGT goes even lower as it exits the turbine. (300-400 degrees F lower)

SURPRISE: A turbocharger converts thermal energy into compressed air.

There is a reason why it is important to IDLE THE ENGINE for several minutes after heavy loading. Heat-soaking is a real problem.

Oh, the fond memories of working at a dealership right off of the interstate. Having to perform oil changes on turbo charged cars just off running 75 MPH. Yes, that oil is in the 230-260 degrees range. The oil cooler does cool the oil, but, the newer vehicles/engines with an electronic thermostat run the engine at 220ish degrees. As for the reason for the part number change, you will not find documents for a part change(the lawyers would love this). It might already have an oil temperature sensor that is relaying information to the ECM as a checksum to the coolant temperature sensor for regeneration purposes.
