In order to remove my radiator screen, I need to raise my front in loader to get it out of the way. My question is, just how safe is it to work under the loader or is there just something I don't understand??

Many would say it is a very bad idea - pure safety, if somehow a hydraulic line failed, it would fall and ,well - there is a picture that needs no description!

Most who raise the FEL - place a piece of U shape tubing over the cylinder or make their own. This "tube" will not allow the ram to lower. It can be made by cutting a piece of pipe in half and then strapping it back over the cylinder , or two pieces of angle iron that can be place back together on each cylinder. There are many places on the net to buy, and many ideas to build.

AND NO - s 2x4 standing up is not a good idea!:D:)

If you don't have anything else at least put a good solid 4x4 cut to the length under the bucket. Cut it one time and save it for future cleanings.

I'm fairly dense and don't understand blocking the ram. Could you elaborate.

Josef, if you extended you loader up in the air, you would be able to see the shinny chrome of the cylinder ram.

If you had a piece of metal the shape of a "C", you could put that metal on the shinny chrome so it would fit only on the chrome and butt up against both ends of the cylinder. This could be held in place by a tie strap, large hose clamp, bailing wire! But it keeps the piece of "C" shaped iron in place so the cylinders can not collapse under any condition, until it is removed.

What D2Cat said;
A picture is worth a thousand words

Picture this bucket fully up, drop the safety lever down onto the ram,
lower the ram back down onto the safety bar and will go no further down,
while you are under it.

If nothing else hold the bucket over your truck bed. Chances are nothing will fail but having to fix your truck is cheaper than costing your life.

Like the others said there are many ways to make a block for the rams. I use a piece of 2" angle on the rams that didn't come with a factory lock.

To clean my screen,I raise my loader and pull the screen out. I then get an electric blower and blow all of the debris out under the hood. The blower allows me to stand away from the raised loader.

This is a great temporary fix, thanks.

Very clear and concise, thanks very much.
