Was visiting with a neighbor today who has a Kubota tractor and RTV. He was telling me he bought and had delivered an RTV from a Kubota dealer. It was sold as a 2017 model. He paid for it and had it delivered. Wanted his wife to get insurance on it. The insurance folks wanted the model and serial number. They call back to confirm the age of the machine. He said 2017. They said no, it's 2015. So they had a bid of a discussion, called the dealer and again told it's a 2017. So neighbor calls Kubota.

Kubota tells him beginning in the year 2010 a new system was implemented (at least on RTVs) that the age was now in the serial number. The tenth digit indicated the year of mfg. Example, if the tenth digit was a 7, it would be a 2017, if it was a 5 it would indicate a 2015.

Neighbor called the dealer to address his newly purchased machine and they said it was by the year it sold. He said the ins. company said it was a 2015 and he didn't want it because they misrepresented the age and if he sold it and someone went to get ins. and discovered it was two years older he would be held accountable for the error and have to reduce his price.

They came and picked it up and brought a check as he asked. He ended up buying a 2018.

This is the first I had heard of Kubota having a serial number dating a machine.
