2022 RTV X900 hard to start at first, then after starting can not get it to idle. Therefore can not get it into gear. Changed fuel filter to no avail. Running fine, shut it off, then problem started. 300 hours on it. Have not taken it to dealer yet, as I have no faith in local Kubota shop. Suggestions??

Welcome RRG!

You didn't say if it runs at high RPM's once you get it started but will not idle.

Check the linkage at the shutoff solenoid, make sure it retracts to normal position and lube it up.

The governor and the injector pump linkage may be sticking. If it sticks in the no-fuel position the engine stalls. While not stuck enough to prevent the unit from restarting it may eventually.

You can find a Work Shop Manuel here Kubota Books - RTX 900 WSM

It runs at high RPM's fine. But when I try to slow it down to an idle to shift into gear, it will die. If I happen to get it into gear , it will run fine down the road. Most times it will not idle down enough to get into gear without grinding. After running a few minutes, when it does it will fire right back up with pedal held about 1/2 throttle.

I have an RTV 900X and I suspect your idle screw and jam-nut have vibrated to a too-low position.

BTW…. they should idle at about 1100 RPM. Some folks THINK diesels should “loaf” at very low idle speeds….and fiddle with it..then complain it won’t idle. There is no tachometer to gauge it by…. but if you adjust it to idle too slowly…it will vibrate and shake and rattle pretty hard.
Crank the idle up to where it “just smooths out”….and that’s where it should be.

Hope this helps.

PS: Do NOT cut the safety-wire on the fuel-screw on the governor in a mis-guided attempt to alter the power-rate or you may end up at the dealer anyway. (Although there is one video that has helped some people.)

None of the suggestions have worked. It is hard to start and I have to hold pedal down about halfway to get it started. If I keep it revved a bit it will run good, but slowly letting off throttle, it get to a point it dies. Time to dealer, of which I don't have much confidence in their knowledge ??
