Hello All:
I posted a while back some adventures around buying a used RTV 500. It has been a solid machine. This weekend I decided I was going to give it a little TCL and adjust the parking brake, which has never worked!!. Well what I found is as always more than I bargained for!!
Cable was fine. Couldn't adjust it much tighter so I took a look at the pads. They were worn to metal and even about 1/8th into the metal of the back pad and it shaved about a 1/16th or a bit more off the back side of the rotor. So I said I'll get some new pads. FYI - That's about 100 dollars for the rear 2 sets!! So I said I want to make sure the calipers work or aren't seized. I had a friend pump the brakes. Back left moved but didn't really retract. Went to the other side kept pushing, no movement. In the process, I popped the other piston out of the caliper!!
Time to rebuild calipers, or is it!! So, my question is. Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these calipers? I called Kubota and they don't sell the two square seals that are inside the caliper and they don't sell a new piston. They do sell them new for 400 $/ea for a whole caliper. Ebay has used ones for less if I have to go that route.
Any knowledge of where to get a seal from? Size? What's the general knowledge around putting the piston back in? For some reason Kubota does NOT have a dust guard around the piston. So they get grimy and bit rusty and seize. They are smarter than that, I thought. I looks like I'm going to have to pull the pistons, clean them, but don't want to go too crazy if I cant get the seals and might be missing some knowledge that others here have had to gain the hard way.
Your help is much appreciated. The two dealers I called said - never replaced them, the other said he has done 1 in his 10 years and it was to put new calipers on the unit. Needless to say - not much help!!
