ROPS Worklight question

I bit the bullet and bought a 3 light set from Ropslights.com. A little pricey but I’m no electrician and I wanted to make it easy on myself. The lights looked real nice and I spend a few hours routing everything to make it look professional. I turned them on when it got dark and went for a little ride, boy were they bright! They lasted for about a minute and then went out. I checked the fuse box and I had a blown 5 amp fuse. The lights are plugged into the auxiliary wires under the right rear fender of my B2601. A 5amp fuse seems awful small for an auxiliary outlet, no? I guess these guys sell a bunch of these kits and I would think the lights should be sized to work with my tractor. I can’t find out what wattage the lights are but they say they are 4560 lumens each. I emailed John Elliott at ROPS Lights and I’m waiting to hear from him. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the matter. I got one picture before they blew.

Don't upgrade the fuse unless you are prepared to possibly create problems, overheated wiring etc., the fuse is there to protect the wiring, not what is plugged into the wiring.
If you bought 3 x lamps, guessing 40 watts each = 120 watts = 10 amps total.
Consider wiring straight from the battery with an additional fuse at the battery. YMMV

Do you think those LED lights are 40 Watts each? That seems kinda high. I need to speak to them and find out. If they are 40 watts, I won’t put a bigger fuse in, I will run a wire from the battery. If that is the case, I can’t believe they would sell a plug in kit and not tell me. I guess I will wait and see. Thanks for the help.

I don't know what they are, I guessed 30 watt, then found these at 48 watt (16 x 3 watt), yours could be 12 x 3 watt I expect, but may be less?

Either way, they popped the fuse so if they are 30W that's 7.5 amps

It is stated right on their Home page that a double light kit draws 7 amps so your triple light kit would draw 10.5 amps.

Shame on me for not reading everything on their website. I did see where it said you cant use both the front and back at the same time with a quadruple light kit. It didnt say anything like that for the kit with three lights. The whole reason I got the lights is so I could have the front and back lights on at the same time. I would have got the kit with one front and one back light, if I had know that, and saved myself $50 and a lot of headache. I guess now I have to figure out how to get appropriate power to these lights.

Use your aux wire to trigger a relay and wire your lights straight from the battery through relay. Don't forget to fuse that wire from the battery.

I have standard Kubota worklights, front and back, and they are on two switches but the same fuse and it is 20 amp. 5 amp seems small even for led, I would do some research on what that 5 amp circuit/connector is intended for, I don't think they would have a dedicated cicuit for led lights so may not be for lighting. What gauge wire are they using? That would tell the tale. Also I would put them on separate switches if not already.

It’s is the 5 amp work light fuse that blew. I think the wire is 14 gauge but I’m not sure. It looks pretty thin. The light set I bought has a switch for the front lights and one for the back. I’m thinking about running power from the battery and plugging the light kit into that. I will put a 15 amp fuse on the positive lead from the battery. I’m hoping that’s all I have to do because I don’t feel like wiring a relay, I don’t really know all that much about that stuff.

I just realized that the cigarette lighter is 120w. Outlet (right side). I’m going to use that power to run the lights.

So I think I have everything worked out. I cut the plug off of the cigarette lighter and spliced it into the work light wires. I then added wires from the auxiliary power and soldered them to the cigarette outlet. My work lights now run on a 10 amp 120 volt circuit and my cigarette lighter jack is now a 5 amp 35 volt jack. I ran all three lights today for about 20 minutes with now problem. I use the cigarette jack to run my yellow led flasher. It was a pain in the but boy they are bright! Here is the tractor with the lights and a few pictures of my new grapple.
