I am considering painting the ROPS on my ZD326. It has some areas where someone scraped the paint off. I guess I am messing up the bargain I got when I bought it. I keep wanting to pretty it up and fix unimportant things. I bought new pedal covers.

Is there anything special about Kubota ROPS paint, or is it pretty much the same as orange, only gray? Kubota charges an immense amount for a can of ROPS paint, and I can't imagine any way it could be justified.

I am thinking I will get Rust-Oleum tractor paint in Massey-Ferguson gray, or I will just use one of the cans of Kubota orange I already have. That ROPS would look better in orange. Today I saw two JD's on a trailer, and their roll bars were JD green.

Howdy Mr. Haney.
Kubota's paint is acrylic enamel and you are correct it is expensive.
I use it because I want to match the factory paint and it does - whether orange or grey.
I also purchase it by the quart and mix adding thinner and a catalyst.
That makes it nice to spray, dries in a few minutes (to handle) and cures to a very hard and shiny finish.

I found that anything out of a spray can will take longer to cure and be a bit softer once cured.
But that doesn't mean I don't like Rustoleum - heaven knows I've used a bunch of their stuff - especially their self-etching primer.
Having said that, I also purchase Rustoleum in a quart can, thin and catalyze it for a better finish.

Your choice whatever works for you. And that goes for "fixing unimportant things"!
When I rebuilt my equipment I wanted the OEM look so I also replaced worn pads. and such.

Goodluck with what you decide.

There is a Rustoleum color, that in my opinion, matches "perfectly".

I'm not at home, so I can't take a pic of it, but I'm sure someone will post it.

Thanks for the help.

I have found that the canned Rust-Oleum tractor paint dries very hard, flat, and shiny. I'll post a photo of a project I used it on. Unfortunately, it doesn't mask imperfections in hot-rolled steel.
