Roading A Tractor

Got a neighbor that has a couple jobs for me with my new tractor. He's one half mile away on paved road.

What is your cutoff for roading vs. loading on the trailer and hauling?

Drove mine 10 miles to the dealer on the road twice.

If its faster to haul it, that's what I do. Mine can go 24 MPH, so it has to be farther than a mile for me.

Only thing I would be worried about running a half mile would be the traffic

They may never cross. They have to be traveling towards each other, are they?

For a half of a mile I would road it unless it was Interstate! Take longer to load and boom down, then unload then to drive it there.

My neighbor before he got a trailer used to drive his tractor to his deer hunting land, about 30 miles or so, on the back roads. Just don't forget to take it out of 4wd! He did, and it was quite the repair.

Exactly what I was thinking......

by the time I get my BX on the trailer, chained down and back in the cab.....
20 minutes have gone by! OK.... I stretched that a bit!

I'd go at least 5 as long as the traffic is safe. Probably more. Pavement is hard on R1 ag tires, but not as big of a deal on industrial or turf tires. Different implements can be more or less of a PITA to trailer. A chain of hog farms I worked for in college would have me drive an IH 3588 with a honey wagon 9 hours between farms vs. trailering it. As mentioned, run it in 2wd.

As for the trains, it depends which tracks they're running on.

Make sure your insurance policy covers your tractor when off of your property, not all policies do. The Kubota insurance covers your tractor anywhere.

I'm running r1 agrIcultural tyres on my b2410, so keep the road miles to about a mile, any more an I'm likely to lose my false teath along the way...

Are the car windows open or closed?

I drive the Kubota about 1-1/2 miles each way to our church whenever it snows. Insurance covers it, all secondary roads and I have good strobes.

R4 tires and minimal traffic. I'll use the flashers and the extry magnetic flashing light on the ROPS.

I only noticed one post saying to be sure its in 2 wheel drive. so i will say the same, be sure its out of 4 wheel drive on the roads or for that matter on other hard surface that does not allow much tire slippage when turning. Your biggest problem i think is going to be the rest of the traffic, not your tractor.......be careful getting there and enjoy the work
