Hi
I'm re packing the hydraulic swing cylinder. The yellow seal on the piston is quite a bit larger than all the rebuild videos on u tube, and I'm trying to find a good way to get it on the piston without distorting it.
I did rebuild one and got it back together, but when I did the second one I pretty much trashed the seal.
I have read put it in hot water to soften, I did that and it had no discernable effect.
One video shows a guy using a special tool that appears to be plastic and cost $127.00
I would like to avoid that option if I could being that I'll probably never use it again.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Tom

I have boiled them for about 10 min to make them more pliable, also I have just flexed them in half working all the way around like you’re playing with play dough to make the material more workable. When you slide it over the gland take your time and let it slowly stretch. When it does finally fit over and you set it in its groove, you will notice it’s now bigger than it used to be from sliding it over. I have a worm drive hose clamp I will use to “pack” it back down into the groove. I guess you can use a zip tie as well as a substitute. Leave in place for a few mins and the seal will be about 90% back to its normal size. Sliding the piston back into the bore will handle the rest.
