Replacing seal and bearing on rear axle?

I went out to start my BX23s this morning and noticed a leak that was seemingly coming from one of my rear tires. Upon further inspection, it looks like I tangled with some barbed wire (picture #1).

The damage (picture#2) appears to be my ball bearing + oil seal.

Understanding that this is my first tractor and I am a novice (to put it mildly), I have two questions: (1) am I right about this being the part I have damaged? and (2) can I do this replacement on my own? If so, any good tutorials? The stuff I have found so far on the forum doesn't explain simple things like how to get the axle off.

Thank you!

First go here:
Get the WSM:
http://kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/index.php?dir=Tractor Owners Manuals/&file=BX23S WSM.pdf

Order /buy parts:
Seal P/N 09500-00003
Bearing P/N 08101-06007
Get SUDT2 fluid for top off.

Have a good set of snap ring pliers!

Then go to page 4-51

You pull /pop seal with flat blade screwdriver (already done for you by wire) , remove external clip, pull axle then remove inner clip, pull bad parts, reverse and reassemble, done.

Make sure you check fluid level before running tractor. ;)

He means a very GOOD set of pliers.

There are internal and external snap ring pliers to use on the appropriate snap rings. Get the correct type. Don’t try the universal types.

Wear safety glasses when doing the snap rings-they can fly

Get a set of good jack stands also

Thanks for all the help here! Once I listened and actually got a GOOD pair of snap ring pliers, this was a very quick, cheap, and simple fix.

I need to do the same to my BX23s. Did u have brake set when pulling axle? It doesn't mention that in the book?
It is easier to reinstall if you set the brake before pulling the axle out. If you don't set the brake you may have to wiggle the axle shaft a little to reinstall. The brake discs can't go anywhere if you do not set the brake.
