I'm removing the steering box on my L2350Dt
And noticed it had a huge nut on the underside where it attaches to the transmission, where the release bearing is....
I have a pretty big crescent wrench but not that big. Any ideas on how to loosen this behemoth nut? What to use, sockets?
Thanks guys SammyD

Hello Sammy
You should not have to remove the large nut. The steering box is bolted to the top of the transmission with four bolts just remove the 4 bolts and remove the complete assembly. The four bolts come in from the top. Good luck Lance

Lance, removing the steering column wasn't hard at all. After removing the bolts on top it came right off!
Just split my tranny from the rear axle. The bearings Look pretty solid. I'll post some pics

Hello Sammy
Looks like you’re old transmission is missing a small piece. What took place. Do you have a loader on this tractor ?

Either your missing the axle bars or ???, and it took a big hit.
Are you replacing the case?

I replaced the whole case.
My best guess is while doing a clutch job on it i didn't have the tractor lined up when i tried to bolt it back together. I should have done my research. Its cost me more time and money over a simple task[emoji15]
Good thing I've met some really nice and helpful people over this project.
I couldn't have done this without you guys.

After all is said and done, I have a blacksmith friend I'm taking the old tranny to for him to mess with. I didn't want to weld it in the first place since its the center of the tractor.

I bought my L3450 GST-DT for the same reason.
A dealership mechanic put it together with a roll pin inside the transmission coupler, bolted it up and tightened it down, and pushed everything forward 1/4".
The tolerance in the transmission is way less than that and it broke the webbing (bearing supports) and drove the shaft right out the front.
In total it cost me about 2K to have the case welded and replace internal parts.

It runs perfectly now and has since 9-14.

So do you have a loader on your tractor. I contemplated welding mine but thought it would eventually break again in the weak spots. That's why I replaced the tranny. I knew I would be using mine more for construction use until I decided to upgrade[emoji41]

Yea I have a loader.
If mine would have been broken like yours I would have had to retire it.
I don't think it would have held together as good as I needed it to. :D

I sent some more pics, looks like on the schematic part#100&110 is similar I'm not convinced but it looked close, what do you guys think? Thanks in advance

Hello Sammy
You are correct.
Good Luck Lance
Well......
Transmission is bolted up
Installed the gear box, which was very tricky, thank you lance
Lights rewired and working, found a loose ground[emoji818]
Steering box installed[emoji818]
Start up[emoji818]
I'll keep you updated. Still have some minor things but all together no leaks and everything seems operational.
It's there anything I need to look out for or
check?
Thanks again- SammyD
