Remove hood latch cable

I recently broke the handle off of the hood latch on my L4060. I managed to open the hood so I can replace it, but I can't figure out how the cable is fastened to the frame. It looks like a snap ring groove but I don't see a snap ring.

Parts diagram shows a E-clip. Clean it up with a wire brush. Looking closer it looks visible already.
