Regen frequency

I have a kubota l3301 tractor with 36 hours on it. I've had 3 regens, the first occurred after about 15 hours, the second at about 12 hours and the last at about 8. I have not had an opportunity to run it hard but I keep the RPMs around 2200. Why are the regen cycles so frequent? Could there be a problem other than the tractor RPMs it is being run at?

One other OTT member had something similar with a new L 01 tractor. Dealer told him just to keep working it, and the regen times lengthened out. Somewhere there is a thread where folks were keeping track, and it could give you some idea. The things that affect regen times are frequency of cold starts, rpm use and load, fuel and additives, air temp.

I have had a L3301 for over four years now. Sheepfarmer hit the nail on the head. I am convinced fuel quality is the greatest factor. If I use fuel from one particular local supplier, my tractor usually regens every 12 or 13 hours. If I use fuel from another local supplier, regens spread out to about 20 hours.

This is with all else being equal. I.E. same work, same ambient temperature etc.

Regardless, all regenerations have been flawless.

Good info mdhughes. I thought my tractor wasn't working right but based on your stats it looks like it's probably ok. Based on what the other guys who posted on this thread said, I'm suspecting fuel quality is causing the frequent regens-that and I have been using it for frequent, short periods of time. I've been trying to locate some fuel without bio-diesel added but i'm not having much luck. Almost all the gas stations around here are selling 20% bio-diesel. I managed to find one supplier that carries 5%. Thanks to all who replied.

The first regen on my new L3560 was at 27 hours. I now have about 39 hours. Except for the first few hours when I'd run it for 2-3 hours at a time, it's all very short stints now. I think that adds to regen frequency because it doesn't really warm up for very long?

Yes that's right but put the screen on the setting that allows you to watch the dpf fill. Today my 3560 started out at 84%, went up to 86% as it warmed up, and then slowly went down to 83% as I carried manure in the bucket for about half an hour or so. For reasons I don't understand the regen frequency is lower on the 60 series than the L01s.

My regens were quite frequent when my tractor (L4701DT) was new and have since lengthened. I may be the member Sheepfarmer was referring to in the above post as we discussed it several times.

Regen 1 @ 4.5hrs
Regen 2 @ 10.5hrs (6 hrs)
Regen 3 @ 15.8hrs (5.3 hrs)
Regen 4 @ 21.1hrs (5.3 hrs)
Regen 5 @ 27.5hrs (6.4 hrs)
Regen 6 @ 36.7hrs (9.2 hrs)
Regen 7 @ 47.1hrs (10.4 hrs)
Regen 8 @ 69.8hrs (22.7 hrs)
Regen 9 @ 92.8hrs (23.0 hrs)

Give it some time and see if it gets better.

Try changing where you get your fuel from. Using fuel from one station I am 30+ hours between regens on my 3901, while I get 25ish from another. My Powerstroke developed an under-boost issue, the only thing that cleared it up was changing where I filled up. Tier 1 fuel in modern diesels is a must!

A tractor is something you will have for a long long time. I would consider buying a used machine pre Regen or DEF. DPF systems in tractors is just horrible.

Just let the def do what it needs to. Don***8217;t worry about it unless it starts to give you trouble and affects tractor operation. No sense worrying about it if ain***8217;t broke. Just drive it.

You do have to write it down. If I have my smartphone on me I take a picture when the regen starts and one when it finishes.

I really thought I was the only one that kept track of it.

I also keep track of how much fuel I have put in the tractor.

I use a script that I wrote to keep track of everything I do to the tractor.

Shep Mine went a long time between 150 Hours and 200 and something. Either that or it regened while I was bush hogging and I missed it. I typically wont miss a light on the dash..... but who knows ...I may have.
