Looking to change the oil in the reduction box and gear box. After studying the manual of my K51-22-7CF i am unclear on how to change the oil in the gearbox. It says to "remove side plug", "pump the oil by the side plug" and "fill the gear box until oil reaches side plug". Not sure how "side plug (item 4) is able to be drain plug and filler plug. The other question I have is the amount of 80w90 gear oil is required to change oil in the reduction and gear box? Thanks

I usually remove the plug at the front of the gearbox, then tip the entire blower on its front to allow the lube to drain. I do this during the summer, when the oil flows more easily. If the plug hasn't ever been removed, you will need to put some muscle power on it, along with some heat from a torch, to break the bond of the Locktite. Then I fill from the top vent. I know that this isn't specific information for your snowblower gearbox, however it is a time proven method for me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have 50 hrs before required maintenance so that should get me to warmer weather when the blower isn't needed

On the lower units of outboard boat engines, you fill them from the “bottom up” to prevent “air pockets” from forming, hence giving you a false indication of “full”.

They sell cheap $10 pumps specifically for this purpose.

Maybe thats how they want it filled?

Thank you Scissors for the suggestion and link to a pump. Seeing an actual pump explains the "pump the oil by the side plug" instruction. Much appreciated!
