Hello all,
I ordered a set of Oregon Gator G6 blades to replace the very well-worn 8 year old stock blades. So far, I am very pleased with the quality of the cut. I did notice that the Gator blades appear to extend down toward the lawn about 1/4" more than the stock blades, so if anyone else makes this upgrade, start with your quarter-inching valve up a notch or two. Also, you have to double-check that your deck housing isn't bent or dented in any way, or these blades will contact the deck. I noticed this most on the center blade, where the outer two blade chambers taper into the center blade's chamber.

My question is do I need to get a mulching block for the discharge chute should I want to take full advantage of the mulching capabilities of the new blades? Or is it wishful thinking that these blades can mulch that well? Also, I have some pasture that gets long (8 inches or so) before I mow it. Would it be better to leave the discharge chute open to avoid plugging up the deck? I've never tried to mulch grass before, and it's more important on the finished lawns than the pasture. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My only complaint about the g6 blades is that they send a lot of dust/grass out under the front left corner. So keep an eye on the water temp, and clean the screen often.
