Greetings Folks,

My brother and I bought a pair of ZD28's from a lawn service (The lawn service was upgrading to the ZD31's).

My brother's machine was just used today for the first mowing and the right blade is leaving a swath an inch longer that the others. Here's the wierd part, the swath is only about 1/2 a blade length wide! The inside half of the blade, no less. He put all new blades on before today. The blades are all tight and torqued. The belt is tight. There appears to be no problem with the bearings. No up/down play in the spindle. Tire pressure good in all four wheels.

Any ideas? Could it be a lopsided adjustment on the deck hangers?

I found this out via phone call. I should have a picture tomorrow. Frankly, I find it hard to believe...

More to follow,

Dave

Could be a problem of the deck being bent on the right side. If you purchased them from a comerical landscape company they could very well have bounced the mower off curbs and smacked the deck on the concrete or any other number of objects they could have nailed and knocked the deck out of alignment. Sometimes a small bend of flex in the deck wont be obvious to the naked eye but shows up in the quality of cut.

Also check the mower deck anti-scalp wheels and make sure that all are set at equal heights. May very well be that a front roller on the right side of the deck is down a half inch lower then the rest and that will throw it out of wack as well.

My brother just called. After swearing he had put the blades on correctly, he informed me that the right outside blade was up-side down!

:mad::rolleyes::eek:

That's one down fall to doing your on work. You don't have anybody to cuss at but yourself when it gets put together wrong.

Yeh, I normally have the dubious honor of being his mechanic. I'm thankful he did it himself and fixed it himself.

Thanks All!
