I have a BX2370 with a rck54-23bx mower deck. The other day, I pulled out the deck to change the blades and belt. When putting it back, I noticed the shaft didn't extend, and was stuck. I had to use a come-along to pull it apart. I cleaned it up with a little sand paper, wiped it down, greased it, and tried to put it back together but it won't go. I banged it a bit but didn't want to jack it up. Any ideas?

i believe there is a key spline that has t/o be lined up to keep the shaft phasing correct. There should be one spline that should be wider to line up with the wider groove on the other half. Once aligned, it should go.

As was said in previous post, spline is keyed, will only fit one way.

Drive shafts with U joints need to be kept in phase. Failure to do so will cause bad vibration

The manufacturer will build the two shaft halves so they cannot go together out of phase. In your case a wide spine on one of 20 odd splines.

In simple terms the two end yokes need to be in the same plane as I have marked with the two yellow lines.

Google drive shaft phasing to learn more.
