Yesterday I replaced a broken PTO cable on my L2800. Soon after I hooked up my brush hog and went to work putting in roughly 2 hours of cutting. After a little break I started at it again having to stop a couple times (taking it in/out of PTO) to dismount the tractor -the last time I reengaged the PTO lever I got a grinding sound. I tried it several other times to reengage it, but same thing-grinding. I unhooked the brush hog from the PTO and engaged the PTO and it seemed to work fine (without the BH hooked up to it). I reattached the BH and engaged it in low idol and it seemed to work. As I increased the RPM's the grinding started up again- never had this issue before. Could it be an adjustment with the cable (which seems to be engaging just fine)or something worse? would love any input anyone could give me. Thanks!

I know nothing about the L2800, however, I have a very similar problem with my L3010 - all of a sudden, while using the 3PH backhoe, I got a grinding sound out of the PTO and lost power.

Of course I freaked & thought I would have to bring it to the shop ($$$$). I believe if there is a chance you can fix something give it a try. So, I tightened the cable a tad and its been ok for about 2 years now.

Sounds like the cable is a little out of adjustment. It may have stretched a little after you installed it. I would try to tighten it up a little and see if it works.

My L3700 has trouble with the pto cable. It usually takes 2 tries to get the pto to disengage. How do I adjust this cable? What is the correct lubricant?
