I would like your opinions on the PTO link as I can’t seem to use the slip rink with the ball bearings. Thank you
Thanks for the reply. (On a land pride brush hog-tractor end) I’m talking about the pull back collar releasing the 3 bearings. I pull the collar back and get the thing to slide on maybe 1@ and it hits the bearings and stops. However, while I hold the collar back my wife tapped on the exposed end (I slid the two driveshaft halves apart) and knocks it right on with a few taps. But, I can not put it on by myself - it just won’t slide in all the way. I think maybe the ball bearings are not fully seating down! Does any of that make sense?Add length, adds weight, and wear points, add expense.
And do you mean you can't get the slip ring to work on whatever you trying to connect or connect to?
Pull the end of the pto shaft off and use a small bucket and soak the end in some strong cleaner like purple cleaner or orange cleaner, that will get all the crud out of the collar. Thanks for the reply. CTFJR, I’m 75 and have some of the same issues you do. I only wish those PTO Links weren’t so expensive, I just bought the bush hog and those links are half what I paid for the bush hogI am also considering the pto link. Most of my couplers are 'push pin' rather than the ring type. The are easier for me, just not easy. I keep them meticulously clean and lubed.
At 78 I have a really hard time with the angles I working at and the (lack of) strength in my hands. When I but the blower on a week or so ago I got the coupler on the shaft easy enough but couldn't push the pin down far enough to slide it past the shaft groove. If it wasn't for the thought of cutting all those pto shafts I'd have the quick links on already.
Come the spring I'm going to pull the trigger and get them.
What is a PTO link ? Or is it called something else?
Thanks for the reply. This cutter is used albeit very little. Appears brand new. But I have no idea how long it’s sat out in weather. The tractor end actually does slip on about an inch then hits metal - like stuck balls. I just can’t get it to move past those balls so I’m soaking it now to see if that will help free up the balls. Oh yeah I have the slip collar pulled back but doesn’t seem to help much. Thanks I’ll post here what happens next.Cleaning and greasing the PTO stub shaft on the tractor can also help get it put together easier.
Sometimes a burr needs to be filed down.
If there is any rust soak it in some CLR or Zep's version of the rust remover. Thanks for the reply. This cutter is used albeit very little. Appears brand new.
