PTO lever loud clicking & shuts itself off L3901

Hey there, after mowing and tilling for a bit our pto started making a loud clicking noise and whenever I would lower the tiller into the ground it would shut itself off. Like the pto lever would fly back to off. I’ve always pushed the clutch before engaging the pto. We greased it all, took off the tiller, and even changed all filters and fluids but it’s still clicking and we need to get it working so we can finish mowing and tilling for spring . Any ideas?

Check the PTO cable adjustment but most likely the PTO clutch or "Dog clutch is damaged and needs replaced.

Check the PTO engagement lever and its pivots. Mine was doing that until I lubricated the shaft on which the lever moved. I rubbed a bit of molybdenum disulfide powder into it as I wanted a dry lubricant. Dry graphite powder would probably work well, too.

Hey TiaBreezy, did you ever figure out what was wrong with this? I have an L3901 as well and it clicks inside the PTO when engaged. The PTO engagement cable broke on mine as well, I thought that was the issue in the beginning but I fixed that and it still clicks.
