I'm looking at getting a L3901 HST 4x4 with QA FEL and filled R4 tires. Also will be getting box blade 5 ft heavy duty land pride bush hog and 20 Ft 10K lb trailer.
Current price is right at 26,000. Just wondering if this is good deal. Also looking at the 2501 and 3301. I currently have 2 acres and a big garden. We are also currently trying to purchase a 35 acre farm. I also have a 5 ft tiller that I use. Any input would be great if the other two tractors would work. Thanks

Maybe an unrelated data point only but I just bought an L4760 with 300 hours on it. BH92 backhoe, LA1055 FEL with bolt-on scraper tooth bar, and 3rd remote front loop (one factory-provided extra at rear), canopy with integral driver cooling fan, new 6' Armstrong box blade, and 400 hour fluids/filter service done and delivered 100 miles to my property for $41K all-in.

Forgot that the BH92 has optional hydro thumb and also have extra wide second bucket for BH92.

I have an L3901 with 6 acres. I could do eveything i need to do with a smaller tractor (Sub-compact) my choice was tractor to grow into not out of.

The qeustion you need to ask yourself is what is what will you be doing with the tractor? Do you need a tractor to go into tight spaces on your 2 acres? what will you be doing on the 35 acres?

Pick the tractor for the jobs you will need to do not the amount of HP. The ones you have listed above are only in the L series.

I just purchased a L3901 yesterday with a 5' heavy duty bush hog, quick attach front loader, filled R4 tires, and canopy. No box blade or trailer, and the the price was $26K, so sounds like a good deal!

I will say that my BIL has the 2501 with 10 acres, and a lot of brush, etc, and he finds that it is more than adequate to do anything he needs; clears woods, pulls out small trees, mows brush, etc. I agree with the other poster that that size may be a better fit for you if you don't think you will be doing any heavy work.

We have 155 acres with 80 acres in pasture, and I would have gone with the L2501 if it were not for the steep hills we have. Everyone said I would need the extra HP for mowing the hillsides, especially since we also have a lot of wet areas.

I know around here you can get the 2501 with all the things you mentioned for about $22K

I imagine the L3301 would do, but I've heard LOTS of people wishing they had more power, never one complaining they had too much. I'd stay away from the L2501, but that's just me..

Do you really "need" a trailer?

What is Heavy Duty in the LP line?

if you need the bigger tractor? why not go 3301?

love this brand new 2601 (b series vs L)... if you dont need the bigger baby & just want good hp? why not consider the 2601? the price is quite a bit cheaper than the 2901 or the 3301...

being a guy who plays at his little acreage vs a farmer for pay?

& waht these guys on this site have taught me already?

still tell everyone to buy all the tractor that will fit between the spaces you have to work in.

IF i had more room on the trails we are making? id have gotten a bigger/wider tractor.

no need to have a 33hp tractor if you cant fit it between the trees.. paths or what not that you either have or want to make.

I picked up my L3901HST last week and love it. This last weekend I put 4.3 hrs on it. My wife helped me with the decision. I was seriously looking at the 2501 and I told my wife it will do what I need. She looked around and said your 30hp JD 3005 could do what you needed. What do you PLAN on doing and what were the short-comings of the 30 hp. I found with a farm trailer on back going uphill with a load of wood I needed grunt power. Pushing into a pile of gravel it would really grunt. This weekend we hauled a lot of wood all the way up to the barn. Wow a few hp really makes a difference. Pushing to get a full bucket it pushed right in without pulling the engine down at all. Of course I still run out of traction soon enough. If you ever decide to pull a trailer full of hay or wood or even a hay ride the power is sure nice. 3901 is sure much quieter than most tractors I've used too. Great machine so far.

Mechanic09,
I would go with the R1 tires if you plan on using the tractor in the woods when it if muddy. There have be lots of people wanting to change their R4's for R1's. Just my .02
