i just bought a i think 1976 b6000 it won't start unless u spray with starting fluid which i know is wrong with glow plugs can i test them with test light to see if they are getting current how do i test them otherwise do u just take wire off and unscrew plug and re install new ones... when it runs it blows clear and sounds good even though i think there may be a lot of hours on it.i hope it's not the injection pump. the original fuel filter is not on the machine and a inline is on it.. also is there a place for used parts like hood steering wheel etc thanks azjim

Are you sure you are holding the starting switch over long enough? I hold mine over for 45 seconds to glow plug. then the other way and it always starts. You know the switch is two way, one way for glow plugs, the other to start?

You can search on here for some posts about checking glow plugs, and replacing them. But first make sure you are using them long enough.

My problem is the alternator has died, so I have to jump the battery in cold weather because it always takes a while to get it started. Got any pictures of yours?

Mine has two filters, one inline, mounted just after the tank, the second on the right side of the engine, just above the Hydraulic pump. If you haven't found the second one, I would guess replacing both would help the starting issue too. My local carquest auto parts had the small secondary filter in stock. The inline canister filter I bought a generic one from autozone.

You have checked the gearcase to make sure you have enough fluid in there?

What implements are you using? What connections? And what tools?

I too have just bought an old B6000, and it had the same starting problem. I checked that there was power to the glow plugs, which there was, but still no start. I bought 2 new glow plugs from my dealer for about $10 each, and gave it 30 seconds to warm up and it fires up right away now. The fuel filters on my tractor were absolutely rotten, so I would suggest replacing them both, and all other fluids while you are at it. Good luck.
