So I get an Email from Citi saying I owe money. OK I didnt buy anything so I call, and yall kow how much I love talking to someone that does not speak the kings english ! All I wanted was to contest the charge,, 5, count them 5 people, I was transferred to to help me dispute the charge and each one was worse than the one before! I swear I was back in Saigon! The charge has not been resolved and not one would/could transfer my call to any one that spoke intelligible English . So I was cut off. I guess they don't like someone telling them that they cannot be understood!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

In those cases I use the good old fashioned letter on paper. Registered if required.

Typically way faster to type, print and stick into an envelope than hanging in a waiting queue for 20 minutes and then talking to people that do not understand what this is about.

I have better things to do with my life than wasting it on a phone.

I hope you called the number on the back of your credit card and not the number that you received in the email.

The BEST service I’ve ever had from Any CC has been with Discover. They take MY word for ANY dispute FIRST….and THEY argue with the retailer. When Hertz told me to after-hours drop my rental car off in front of the airport terminal bldg…lock the car with the keys and contract in the glove box…. I did so.
When I got billed by Hertz for two additional days and fuel surcharges (when I’d actually filled it at the station Next Door to the airport)….AND they claimed addt’l mileage than what was on my contract….. (I had a picture of that contract when I dropped it in the glove box)…. Hertz refused to correct the charge on my Discover card.
I believe a Hertz employee used the car for a day or so..but cannot prove that, of course.

Anyway…Hertz Corporate REFUSED to correct the charge…. But DISCOVER completely CLEARED the ENTIRE CHARGE. They may have swallowed it. I don’t know. But I know I didn’t pay ANYTHING for that rental car.

That was 25 years ago and Discover is MY CARD ever since.

(When my daughter‘s graduation was video’d by a company who sold the videos… I bought one. It arrived a month later.
BUT….my Discover card was HIT TWICE for the charge….once when the purchase was made…and then AGAIN two months LATER.
When I called the company they claimed to have changed ownership and blamed the Previous-Owner…. and denied Any Responsibility.. I believe this to be a SCAM.
But DISCOVER reversed the charges!

Tonight I got a text message from my phone carrier, Verizon, notifying me of a request to port my phone number to a new carrier. It came from the same number that notifies me of every other legitimate, expected message from Verizon so I knew it wasn’t a scammer. I wasn’t exactly happy about someone trying to steal my phone number.

Fortunately Verizon has a security option to “lock” your phone number and also lock your SIM such that someone has to sign on to your account and unlock both the SIM and phone number for the individual line before porting to a different carrier, so the unauthorized porting (theft) was unsuccessful. I changed the password and PIN on the account anyway.

That number is the two factor authentication number for a variety of stuff, including banks and investment accounts, so it’s WAY more valuable than any password and not like the phone number itself is a secret.

A word of caution here: a caller can get any number displayed in your phone. Imho this "feature" should have been removed from all mobile phone systems a long time ago.
