Oil change

I need a little help. I'm going to change the oil on the front axle of my new to me KUBOTA L245DT. I'm going to use 85w-145. My question is do I only drain the old oil and then refill, or do I have to do something else before refilling.

Drain and fill.. The longer you let it drain, the more old oil you'll get out.

If for some reason you're overly concerned about the quality of the old oil (water, contamination, age, 'old' smell or feel), consider this method---much like changing antifreeze in a used machine when first bought.

Drain as much as possible, refill with new, run a couple of hours, drain again, refill new. Repeat as you think necessary. Each drain and refill cycle continues to reduce the quantity of old fluid in the system until you reach some endpoint based on diminishing returns and expense. Or in my case, level of interest. In a new-to-me used machine I'll do two cycles and call it good, leaving the second refill for the duration.

Yep like ipz said the longer you let it drain the more gunk you get out, and a fill and change while a little more expensive will assure that what ever was in there is gone and its just good stuff now. And if you drain it after you run the snot out of it, it will drain a bit faster as well

That's what I was thinking on doing to let it drain and if not happy with the way it looks to give it a second oil change.

I always change mine when the engine is hot - have to be careful not to burn yourself. Let the engine cool a LITTLE bit first. For mine, atleast, raising the front tires about 2 inches off the ground will get another 1/2 to 3/4 qt of old oil out. Leave drain plugs out, grease tractor, put drain plugs back in and fill with oil. Go play some more.
