Sometimes you see or read something and you think back to the scout leader telling us if you ever shoot a bear out of a tree Don't stand under it. But when your ten yrs old you just think he's Bs'ing you and the rest of the kids.
Nope.

I wanna hear the whole story. How in the hell do you get under a tree, under them damn bear and then just stand there and wait for the thing to land on you. Musta been some level of stupid/alcohol or just pissed off karma for that to happen.

I looked the article up but to me it wasn’t clear. If I had to guess maybe the person was putting a leash on a dog (or trying to) and getting them off the tree and at that time maybe bear wasn’t dead? And then before they shot it again, the bear died and fell or it fell while expiring…anyway my guess is hunter pulling a dog back before the bear came down and the bear got there first…I have no knowledge of what actually happened just my guess.

Crazy things do happen:

A former co-worker's son (early 20 yrs old at the time) went bear hunting alone in the woods of northern Minnesota. He had his spot picked out and stand built prior to the hunt.

At the start of the hunt, he had very quietly hiked out to his stand in the pitch black hours of the early morning and climbed up into his stand.

As the sun was just starting to break, he heard a strange noise above him and looking up he saw a startled young bear quickly descending to his stand. Apparently the bear was too quick for the hunter to get a shot off. They wound up in a wrestling match while hugging the tree.

They both quickly fell out of the tree together. The bear bounced up and thankfully ran off. The hunter didn't fare so well. He was quite scratched up and in the fall had broken either his arm or shoulder. He had to pack himself out of the woods and then drive himself to the nearest hospital.

From the pictures his dad showed us....it must have been quite a tussle up in the tree!! His son told his dad he didn't feel like sticking around to see how badly he had bruised the bear with his punches. :ROFLMAO:

Reminds me of the story of the kid coming in to the ER with a gashed eyelid from holding his eye too close to the scope when he shot. Needed a bunch of stitches. When dad came to pick him up he had a black eye from doing the same thing!

This made me laugh out loud.

Many years ago my brother was home on leave from the US Army.

New to the service, so he was doing a lot of firearms training. He'd talk about it a lot. We grew up with guns and hunting/shooting.

I took him woodchuck hunting. Really had the Remington Model 700 Varmint Special .22-250 dialed in. My own super hand load @ almost 4,000 fps at the muzzle. <1 MOA accuracy. Light trigger with no creep. Harris bipod. 4-12 power silhouette scope.

'Chuck is 200+ yards -- a pretty easy shot for the gun. He's got the bipod extended to shoot from sitting position.

Touches it off and missed by a foot+!!

I looked at him in disbelief. Then saw the blood......

The scope didn't miss - - he had quite the crescent-shaped cut on his eyebrow......bleeding like crazy...

I was rolling in the grass laughing my ass off.....

He didn't need stitches. Just a good ding in his noggin.

Trust me, not disparaging the US Army or Military service. My brother is a proud combat veteran, and rightfully so.

If I recall, he still had a pretty solid scar when he reported back.

Probably had some 'splaining to do....
