Well my 85 year old father (who worked on dozers his whole life in Bethlehem Steel)came over and lifted me up 6 feet under my deck to install and under deck roof (new Kubotaport actually). Saved me ladder time as I am not very good on a ladder, allowed him to actively help out, and HE STILL LOVES hydraulics, and operating this kind of stuff----however, this is small scale compared to the Cat DC 10s he is used to from 30 years ago. Great day, almost got it done, 200 buck project and makes basically another garage using the underside of my twelve by eighteen deck....

The best thing about it you were able to spend time with your father , and he felt needed that's just the best enjoy your tractor and the family.

Exactly, any project I have he always used to help. NOw due to back issues he cannot ---UNTIL NOW. I am redoing my bathroom--my dad was able to use the Kubota to load all the drywall, tile, and cabinets into a dumpster for me EVEN the tub--which I had to break into pieces with a sledge just to get it out of the bathroom...HE LOVED IT.. When we were done today---I asked him if his arms were tired after picking me up 30 times? he laughed. Saturday he shall be fishing here in PA in my boat for the opener of trout season--probably his 80th first day of trout!!!!!!! He was telling me stories today about rebuilding hydraulic cylinders for machines that were so big you needed another machine to lift em and work on em.....

That's great, my brother and I along with our kids were able to spend some quality time with our dad working in the woods and on various project late in life and have many great memories. Unfortunately we took no pictures and now that he's gone sure wish we had.

newbiewankubotie, as I read your post I couldn't quite imagine an 85 year old man lifting you six feet in the air. Sounds like Charles Atlas. You have any pictures?:D:D

Pictures, NO I do not----next time, after fishing Saturday we are going to finish the roof.....I WILL REMEMBER to take some then...... LOL My father DID use the front loader to do the lifting.....Honestly, my Dad just said this the day we worked, "My brain thinks im 21 and my body keeps telling my brain its wrong". He still hunts, fishes, and keeps up his house on his own....with some help from me and his next door neighbor...

When you're with him, like fishing, take a recorder and get him in a conversation about when he started fishing..... Then just keep the conversation going with questions about his life. Tell him you saving it for others in the family...then he might be more open.

The little thinks he brings up will be remembered forever.
