Hi,
I am a new member. My name is Pat. I am in the upper left corner of Delaware (any other members local to Northern Delaware, Northeast Maryland, or Southeast Pennsylvania? - all three states are within five minutes drive for me)

I acquired an older BX22, and am starting down the rabbit hole of discovering why it isn't running.
Also, why it is leaking hydraulic fluid, and the steps to take in restoring it to its best working condition.

Right now it starts, but is belching tons of smoke, and shudders and dies within 5 seconds.

On the advice of 85Hokie I'll start by renewing the filters from the tank forward, and see if it is clogged injectors.
Is it necessary to pull the injectors to clean them (first foray into dealing with a diesel engine)?

It needs some exposed rust neutralized and repainting in areas (especially below the battery area).
What is access to paint like for these? Do members have a preference for a certain paint?
I was planning to just go to Sherwin Williams and get them to color match a Martin Senour ASE (All Surface Enamel), an oil-based paint I have used for other metal projects.
Thanks in advance for any tips and the forum membership's support,
Pat

Don't forget to check the air filter(s). Seems somebody posted color #'s on here lately, but it may have been another forum.

What color is the smoke?

You might get better responses if you ask a specific question, with details related to the question.

Nice looking BX for its age...(of course, the water helps too...:))

Air filter is clean and new. Smoke is a dark greyish black.Busy right now but once I get back to it I'll have some specific questions. Just got the Service Manual and a few hoses.

I use Chevrolet Engine Orange paint on mine. I buy the engine paint from Bill Hirsch Auto Parts in Newark NJ. I also use it on my Chevrolet engine. It is available in quart cans for $39 or spray cans for $20. It covers well, and stands up to the elements well.
I also have a BX22, and they are great machines. Mine is about 15 years old. To learn more about your machine, search "BX22" , "BX2200", and "BX1800", since all these machines are very similar to each other.

In my opinion I'd replace all the filters, air, oil, and fuel. Dirty air and fuel filters will cause havoc on a diesel engine.

I am not faulting Farmers Insurance, I am just pointing out that insurance companies all do things their own way, and that doesn't mean that it is good or bad, just that the way that one company writes the insurance another might do it differently, and that you need to understand exactly what you are getting for your money. We have to remember that insurance company policies are written by lawyers, and that every insurance company has lots of them on the payroll. State insurance regulations determine a lot of what is in a policy, and in the US, there are 50 states all with their own rules and regulations. My homeowners insurance policy must have at least 10 or more "riders" that are specific to Connecticut state rules and regulations.
While an internet forum is great for advise about your tractor, when it comes to insurance, you have to have a dedicated person in your corner, and one that will fight for you, should you have a claim. Too many variables in insurance for a one size fits all answer to types of policies, and what they cover.

Join the Kubota BX Owners group on Facebook. I asked the same question about paint a few weeks ago and got lots of replies. Also, someone bought a BX with similar symptoms after it had water in the fuel. Use the search box on the group home page to find the posts.
