New tire is shorter

Had a sidewall blow out today. Tire is a 23x8.5x12. found the only new tire in my area. A Hercules brand. Same 23x8.5x12.

Got it then had yo pay a tire shop their ransome to Mount it.

The new tire is nearly 3 inches shorter than the old tire even though they both show the same size on the sidewall.

What gives? I could understand a slight mismatch but not nearly 3 inches.

I can't use the tractor like this as it won't push dirt and if using the bucket it won't scoop straight.

If pushing dirt only 1 rear and the opposite front tire spin due to the mismatch..

Anyone ever heard of this?

For car/truck tires, there is some variation in height for same size with different manufacturers, but 3 inches seems like a lot. My tractor tires are still fairly new, so I haven't spent any effort comparing tires.

Are you sure it's a 23x8.5-12
Hercules makes a 23x8.5-120 too

These are not tractor tires they are skid steer tires and do not have the same profile.

Where did you buy the tire at?

The only place it rown that had a tire.... The Kubota dealer I bought the tractor from 3 weeks ago..

Next time have the same place you bought the tire…(kubota dealer in this instance)…. also MOUNT the tire.

Sounds as if you rec’d the wrong tire despite the label.

They do not mount tires . Infact they said they no longer sell tires but happened to have this one and only this one in the parts shed.

I watched em pull it out and did not see any other tires in there so I believe them .

You should be able to buy tire premounted on rim for LESS than just the tire AT the Kubota dealer. Yeah as daft as that sounds, I've got 2 1/2 sets of tires on rims for my BX23s to prove it. I believe it's called 'whole goods' ?

My helper got up with me and helped. Here you can see the difference.

I normally would not buy tires from the dealer but they were the only place within several hours that had one in stock allegedly añd I was running out of time.

Maybe they no longer sell tires ….because they are so incompetent with regard to what they sell. They certainly did YOU no favors.

I don’t buy from retailers who don’t stand behind their products.

From the tractor salesman at your Kubota dealer…not the parts department. On my BX-1870 I have two sets of mounted tires from my dealer, one set of R1 agricultural tires and one set of R3 turf tires. The additional set of mounted tires from whole goods was ~$500.

That's quite the mystery. According to the manufacturer's specs the O.D. of the Titan and Camso tires of that size are 23.0" and 22.4" respectively, so I have no idea how they're so different in diameter which you refer to as height. Something sure is fishy here.

They're both described as being skid steer/trac loader tires.

This might be the smoking gun. Is that tire marked erroneously and the reason why it was all alone in the shed is that it wasn't the right size in terms of O.D. compared to the lettering on the side wall? Arguably it's marked incorrectly based on the manufacturer's description so it's plausible. Could be an error made at the factory in Sri Lanka or could be a counterfeit tire, but not sure of the motivation to counterfeit a cheap tire made overseas.

Cant until Tuesday as they are closed Sunday and Monday . As for standing behind their products I dunno yet. 3 weeks ago I bought the tractor from them and now a tire. . Only dealings I have ever had with them.

Im not too happy with their service dept thats for sure. They extremely over filled the engine oil and left the oil filter loose. The engine actually ran away on the overfilled oil.

Long story short. Went back to the tire place that installed the new short tire for me and got my old tire back. Had to go to another shop and had them put a tube in the old tire and put it back on my rim.

I'm now nearly $300 into a tire I cant use.
