Hey everyone. I'm new the forum. I'm the proud owner of a new MX5200hst.

Question...

When I turn the key to the pre-start/glow plug position and wait for the glow plug light to go out, I hear a clicking sound coming from the right side of the tractor. It kind of sounds like a relay opening and closing repeatedly.

Is this normal? What am I hearing?

Tractor starts and runs great. So its not effecting my fun but I'm a little concerned...

Thanks,
Mac

Yes it is normal. I believe it is one of the 3 fuel pumps at least on my L3560, but I am not certain.

One other possibility is the glow plug relay is engaging and disengaging, and yes it might do this several times. ;)

On mine it is kind of a ticking noise. The next time I run it I'll see if I can hear better, if I can do it without getting an ear caught in the fan belt or something

On most engines that have an electric fuel pump, you will hear a buzzing, ticking, or clicking sound :)

On some newer engines, you can hear the same thing when the engine is shut down for around 30 seconds or so afterwards.

The reason is they run the engines hotter then they used to. So they use the diesel fuel to bleed off the excess heat from the fuel injectors.

I don't know MX5200's at all, but my first thought was the same as Daren's - electric fuel lift pump. My little BX does the same...
