I'm taking delivery of my new L3800HST 4X4 w/FEL Wednesday. It's my first tractor and I've been studying the manual

I read where it states to operate the tractor at slower speeds for the first 50 hours and "to avoid excessive work or operation until its been broken in."

Would disking or using a box blade be considered excessive work or operation? Or, what would be considered excessive work or operation?

"Broken In" is not clearly defined in the manual. I assume this means 50 hours.

Thanks for you input.

The dealer told me not to run it at full throttle. I have ran it up to the PTO speed for a few minutes and then backed down a couple hundred RPM's. I don't think the box blade would be too much work for it. The disk could be depending on how big it is.

You are going to hear all kinds of stuff,, my dealer said run it like you stole it, I think it was in jest,,,
Vary the rpms up and down try to avoid loading the engine at low RPMs ,,, main thing it to use it you don't have to baby it, just try not to abuse it right away,,, I ran mine like I stole her ( but then I have done that to every machine I ever owned) and have not had a bit of problems,,,
Another thing is being sure to maintain it!!!
Oil changes, greasing the points that need greased, and follow you manual, when to change hydro oil and filters, air filter, fuel filter,,
And check your wheels to make sure they are still tight, and yes the lugs will looses up on a new machine.
A little loving care and a few minuets of your day, when you use it, will make it last a very long time, and you is gona be a happy camper
I garonnnteee you gona like it

While popular with many, I don't subscribe the "Use it like you stole it" (not saying it's wrong), but break mine in pretty much as described by skeets, I use box scraper, rotary cutter etc. and work pretty close to the same way during break-in as afterwards only with cool down periods and vary the RPM from time to time.

In all honesty, the way most of us use our tractors, we won't notice any difference but our kids and/or grandkids might.

Generally you run out of traction before you run out of horsepower. The disc would be the exception. Use the low range, and vary engine rpm as well as the foot pedal. If you are lugging the engine down more than a couple hundred rpm, slow down or take a bit less bite.
