New dolly creation

I am finally getting around to repurposing the metal frame my flail mower came shipped on. I really want to bring as many implements into the basement for storage. That requires them to be on some kind of rolling dolly. The flail only needed a couple of furniture dollies.
This frame will be used for the grapple and perhaps the box blade.

As I have no welding skills my fallback is wood Using up scrap pieces of 2x4's from my framing projects.

The center support looks like it was dinged by a forklift during shipment.

Projects are the excuse to buy new tools (welder) and learn new skills (welding)....

Using what you have is the way to go. I have more than one welder and still make my dollies out of wood (mostly), my backhoe dolly is metal because of the weight it needs to support.

A MIG welder ….is about as difficult as….. a Hot Glue Gun.

I hate working with wood. I only make dollies out of steel.

That's a hybrid dolly! I don't know where you got your flail from, but mine came on a beaten up and broken pallet that was only good for burning.

Those cheap dollies at HF are rated at 1K lbs…. and I’ve tested them pretty hard… I’ve placed a couple end-to-end with 2x4’s and deck-screws to make one long/wide dolly…. they’ll hold twice the capacity just fine and easy to roll on concrete.

As your collection grows floor space shrinks then pallet rack trends. Don't allow lack of welder for building rack nor cost of rack hold you back. Being a woodworker you can build strong racks inexpensively from rough cut Hardwoods out of a sawmill.

lmao - the carpenter's union is safe from worry about me My son has taken up woodworking as a hobby / obsession.

Here is the finished product:

The previous owner of this house left a sheet of that 3/4" pressboard. It weighs a ton. Finally found a use for it,

@GeoHorn you can see I used a couple of those cheap dollies for the flail mower, where this steel base came from (Woodmax). I found you really have to put the load across both ends of them or they just crumple.

The casters I use really make the dolly useful.
