I have, what I call the 2 piece valve stem on my L3800, and determined that it is leaking air where the first piece screws into the second piece that's attached to the rim.

So I'm replacing the first piece that contains the O ring.....do I need to coat the O ring with anything, or assemble it dry?

Thanks for any, and all help!!

I'd lube it with diluted dish detergent. makes it easy to see if it leaks too.

I use a little silicone grease when I do those.

Dry or soap doesn’t matter. Just make sure the inside of the wheel is clean & rust free. Hit it with a wire brush real good & put in new valve stem. It’s same as the style used in big truck rims, only shorter. I put those in my dads wheels a couple years ago. Lasts longer & way more heavy duty than the pull thru type (like on cars) that it came with.
