I'm in the process of repairing a pesky and substantial leak from the rear of the Front Differential (L235DT) and have come across a part shown in the diagram that I can't locate. I've determined that the reason for the leaking stemmed from a missing Oil seal (#14 on the Front Axle Support) that showed no signs of ever being there, and also it was missing an O Ring (#10) that goes inside of the Oil Seal Collar (#6). No real challenge there, easy fix. Of course, to do this, the front axle has to be removed. Checking to see if I might need anything in the Axle Bracket after dropping the Axle, I find the Thrust Washer (#14), Bushing (#19), and the O Rings (#'s 9 and 8) only. No signs of the Seal Cover (#2). Looking up the cost of this part, it is $93.67. From the diagram, I can not figure out where this Seal Cover is supposed to go and if is may be something that the previous owner neglected to replace because of the price (as a side note, I've noticed other areas on the tractor that certain short-cuts were done). Looking at it again and again, I can not establish if this is really a necessary part. If possible, I don't really want to spend another $93.67 unless absolutely necessary.

Is there anyone that is familiar with this particular part. Is it merely a rubber boot covering the end of the Pinion Bearing Case at the point where the drive shaft connects (I'm hoping not at $94.00). This has me and friends baffled by what the diagram is showing

Thank to all that might have some enlightening information.

Ron

Ron, I just spent $1200 on the front end of our L3750. Not sure if that part is needed or not, but if it was me, I'd likely get it. It probably keeps dirt and stuff out of the axle support bushing. The oil leak is likely the pinion seal and it's easy to replace while your in there. Good luck!

I just spent some more time looking things over and am wondering if on the backside of the Axle Bracket where the Oil Pan bolts up to it, this Seal Cover fits in the recessed back part of the bracket where the propeller shaft cover connects. Can anyone verify that might be where it goes. Like stated before, there wasn't one anywhere to begin with so that's why I'm not sure where to exactly look.

Yes, I believe that is were the mystery part goes. You really don't want dirt or water getting in the axle mount bushing.
