I just purchased a new MX5400. I would like to add draft control and two rear remotes. I can’t seem to find a “kit” part number from Kubota for these two add ons. Can someone point me in the right direction for a complete kit? Also, I see talk about new style vs old style rear remotes. Which is better/available?

Thanks,

Lee

Interesting. A "new" MX5400 and it doesn't have draft control? I can understand a bare bones tractor not having any remote valves (really no big deal to add that) but installing draft control might be another matter. I'm curious to see if anyone knows of such a "kit", and has any comments on installing it.

Go to Kubota's website and use the "Build My Kubota" feature. The draft control kit is listed under Hydraulics/Hitch/Drawbar. The rear remotes are also listed as clear as day in the same section.

Ask your salesperson to order the kit for you. It'll be cheaper if you go that route rather than ordering from the parts department.

Thanks. I’m aware of going through sales. I’m a mechanic and would prefer to do it myself. My salesman did quote an installed price.

I cant help with draft control but here are your remote kits. New style is a change in the mounting system. You want new style.

What I mean is you can order the kits through sales and do the installation yourself. That's typically cheaper than ordering the parts through the parts department. I went through this with the rear wiper/rear defrost upgrade on my M6060. I paid $1,300 for the entire upgrade through sales ordered as two kits which included three pieces of glass, a bigger alternator, a rear wiper motor and wiper, switches, wiring harnesses, etc. Ordering the parts individually through the parts department would have cost close to $5,000.

Would you mind posting a photo or two of the rear remotes once you get the tractor. My MX6000HSTC will be four years old this Christmas. I ordered it with draft control and three sets of rear remotes. The valves are the same, but I have the cast iron coupler support used in the previous kits and you can see it in the photos below.

I hadn't realized that the latest kit is now a version A. I'm curious as to why a change was made. Was is motivated by cost cutting or some functional improvement? When I ordered my tractor these are the parts (remote kits) that I included on the order and are the previous kits.

MX6891/L8303
MX6892/L8304
MX6893/L8303

By the way, all three rear remotes cost $1,802 and installation was $229. Well worth the investment, but still not enough for me so I added a Summit Hydraulics multiplier a few months ago that's controlled via a Scorpion control grip in the cab.

I’ll be glad to post a photo but it may be awhile. Just gathering information now. I did find a picture on this forum of the new style. It looks cheaper than your cast iron coupler support.

The new style is cheaper and easier to make. The old style cast iron housing was eye candy and assuming the new styke couplers are push/pull added nothing in terms of function. Its probably less reliable than the new style.

I have spent a lot of time researching Kubota's rear remotes and they have a history of cuttinging corners and locking you in to proprietary components. In many cases their prices are absurd. If you want to roll your own ditch the OEM coupler kits, buy just the bracket, and use this style coupler as found on the big boys.

I figured it was about cost more than anything, but as for the old style being "less reliable", I have 350+ hours of experience with the cast iron coupler on two MX6000 tractors without any issues at all.

The same can't be said for the piece of garbage Faster couplings on the M6060 which have more leaks than a welsh allotment! There are a number of threads on this forum and others about leaking Faster couplers and numerous failed attempts to fix them. The design sucks, the support from Faster sucks, but they do look good, and the dust caps are nice.

Personally I'd be more than ok if the M6060 had the same rear couplers as the MX6000. The manager of the local Kubota dealer told me that leaking couplers on the bigger tractors with the Faster system are common and most of his customers just write if off as being normal.

What can I say. Mine don't leak a drop. Msybe I should buy a lottery ticket

The cast iron housings are nothing more than a proprietary and expensive panel mount for $30 two way sleeve couplers. Pure eye candy and could be replaced with two snap rings. I would hope Kubota's new base mounted couplers are push/pull but given their track history ....

One thing for sure - you are no longer forced to pay their ransom for replacements.

Options are good for sure, and yes, buy a lottery ticket or use the rear remotes more often and dip your toe into the world or hydraulic oil dripping all over the rear of the tractor.

I see that @S-G-R will be taking home a new L5460 tractor that appears to have the old style cast iron "eye candy" couplers for the rear remotes. Given the difference in cost for an L5460 compared to an MX5400 perhaps Kubota decided to keep the eye candy on the L60 models. 😂

The cast iron housings look nice so yeah - curb appeal helps sell tractors. The couplers inside are generic two way sleeve couplers that work exactly the same when clamped or panel mounted. Your Summit vakves have them as well but they are base mounted which defeats the purpose of the two way sleeve. Every coupler OEM offers two way sleeve couplers starting around $25 as opposed to the $130 Kubota wants. My point is quite simpke - nice looking panel mounts are easy and cheap. No need for $100 housings and being tethered to Kubota prices.

Before you get too far out over your skies wrt Faster couplers let me point something out.

I dont know exactly whats inside those cast iron housings but Faster PV two way sleeve couplers would not be a bad guess. Why dont you pop one out and tells us what you find?

Your bigger tractor is getting into the small utilty tractor class and has Faster CFPV sleeveless couplers. They are relatively low end with FKM seals and no connect=disconnect under pressure capability.

The next step up from that is the 3CFPV which adds the capability to connect with male side only under pressure

The ones I am recommending are 4SRHF which is "two steps up" . They have PUR seals and are capable of connect/disconnect with one or both sides under full system pressure.

Bigger AG tractors simply do not use sleeve retraction type couplers and your personal opinion aside Faster has long been the gold standard in that market. Here are two informative videos. The first gives you a good visual of how a sleeveless design works. The second shows connect and disconnect undrr pressure.

Enjoy
