I missed out on a M105x but after thinking about it, that would have been way to big of a machine for my needs.
I had a LX2610 and it was to small, the L looks a little better but the MX seems to be what im looking for.
I'll be looking used, any common problems with these?

I'm a little biased but I think that the MX tractors are very good. I had an MX6000HST for a year and over 100 hours, and have had an MX6000HSTC for three years with more than 200 hours on that tractor. They're not perfect but they are very good, and I've had no issues with either.

For me, there are only two tractors with HST that I'd buy. Either an L6060 or an MX6000. I have no interest in or use for anything smaller.

I went from a LX2610 to MX6000. Do it again in a heartbeat.

I have to echo mcmxi. I’ve been very happy with my MX that I’ve had for 4 years. It’s a very capable and stable platform that is kind of a Goldilocks size for people with large estates to maintain. The loader capacity of 2400 pounds is perfect for one ton pallets. I also like that it has many nice features such as telescoping lift arms and cruise control, but is relatively basic overall without unnecessary technology and features that add to costs. The HST really works well. If you prefer a basic machine in this size/weight/hp class, the MX is hard to beat. If you want more bells and whistles, then consider the GL6060. There are no real reliability problems with this platform that I’m aware of. If you buy one, be sure to get 3 remotes installed as part of the package. Don’t be like me and spend twice as much to add them later.

To the OPs question, no, they are way better than good IMO😉.

That being said I think it depends on your expectations and how you plan to use.

Are you keeping the LX? I may be biased (I use my B more than my MX), but I think it’s nice having a second machine. Depending on your uses, you may still have some use / need? I’d think about that before saying good bye to it.

It’s hard to go wrong and I think if set on an Mx, the hard decision might be what accessories and / or need for a cab in narrowing down your search and comparing what’s available / $ / distance to find what looking for.

Good luck.

i made the jump from a BX25D to the MX6000HST which at the time felt like quite a leap. But it only took a few weeks before the size of the MX was normal to me and the BX felt incredibly small! 😂 Within a year of owning the MX the idea of an M got into my head. Like you, I would make the jump again for sure.

I too am looking into a possible used MX ... As I want pre-computer, no emissions ... Unfortunately that far back the biggest engine is "marginal" in the MX 5100, with PTO HP of only 44 in the gear model ... I have set a preference of a minimum of 45 PTO HP for this next tractor, to add to my little SCUT TLB ...

An M5700 61HP engine, 52 PTO HP, or The M6040 63 engine HP, 56 PTO HP ... Is quite a bit larger, but the older M5700 leave me with more weight leeway on my trailer ... The M6040, and it's big brother M7040 in 2 wheel drive ROPS can fit, but are much closer to my 5,000 Lb carrying capacity ...

Gear, 2wd, no loader, and ROPS is fine with me ... PTO HP, and under 5K weight is most important to me ...

I'm tentatively looking now, but not ready to actually buy until my house is paid off this spring and debt free again ... Looking for less that 2K hours ... As I'm seeing some on line adds for 4-5K hours, seems like I'd still get quite a bit of useful life out of it, as long as it has been maintained.

If you buy a 2wd without a loader, it will be very difficult to resell.

Not looking to sell, buy and use ...

A MX5100 is light enough that if it has 4X4 and/or a loader .. it probably would be under my weight limit ... But the M's are just too heavy unless they are stripped down ... I already have a 4X4 and loader.

Tractor will only be for mowing my fields every three weeks with a flail mower ... Lots of farmers cut hay with a two wheel drive around here.

Sure the MX will do what you want. I was only pointing out the 2wd and no loader tractors are very hard to sell. So if you buy one, just plan to keep it.

I'm not familiar with the Massey Ferguson models, but it looks like your Massey is quite small. Are you really sure you want to spend that much on an MX, but get it in 2wd and no loader? An MX would be way more capable than a SCUT, you'd never regret getting one in 4wd and with a loader. You might have to upgrade your trailer, yes, but that seems a small price to pay to have a tractor that you can do more with than just cut the field every 3 weeks.

Well ... My Little Baby Fergie is small ... But it has done everything thing I have needed in reclaiming my overgrown neglected property ... It's a SCUT, similar to a BX TLB. More than capable of now "maintaining" it.

I basically have given up on loosing money every year on trying to sell hay on 13 acres of fields, hay I have no use for, and don't like the tall grass and weeds that grow if I don't spray herbicide ...

So ... I want much larger tires, and mights well get a bigger engine to run a big flail mower while I'm at it ...

I don't like the after effect or looks of mowing with my brush hog, the commercial Z-turn does a great job, but the little tires are rough on the bumpy ground at 10 mph, even with the best suspension seat.

My trailer is rated for 7K Lbs, but weighs 2K ... So only room for 5K Lbs on it ... Bumping up to a 10K Lb rated trailer that weighs 3K really is very limited gain, as my truck (because of gearing) is limited to 8900 Lb towing capacity, so I'd gain 900 Lb carrying capacity on the trailer ...

You could buy an MX with a loader and 4WD in case you want to sell it, and simply remove the loader and run it in 2WD. I run my MX in 2WD mostly, unless plowing or blowing snow. The flail lives on the MX for at least five months over the summer. The loader for my M6060 is rarely attached since I use that tractor to pull a 12ft folding cutter around my hilly property and a friend's place. I'm hoping to pick up some more mowing jobs this coming summer too since I enjoy that sort of work.

Don't forget that there are some good options if you want to do away with DPF and EGR on a newer tractor. You'll pick up some hp too along with way better fuel mileage and much less hassle.

The problem with weight is not so much in my fields, but legal carrying capacity over the road ... I don't like being dependent on others to move my stuff ...

Unfortunately back in October of 2021 when I blew the engine on my old truck, new trucks were pretty scarce, and very limited choices on used ... I wanted a 3/4 or 1 ton, but couldn't find one in the very short time I had to look, basically was just this 4X4 one I got, and a 2 wd with the better gears and more miles ... I wasn't gonna buy a V6, so that limited my available choices ...

the only complaint I have with my MX is the lift capacity. Why couldn’t they add 2-300 more pounds to lift a full IBC tank of water?

If you are keeping the smaller tractor, look at an M series instead of the MX.

I agree, full tote of water would be nice.

Well it has a 2400# capacity. Accounting for the weight of forks or bucket, it can lift one ton with proper ballast. Most palletized materials are limited to one ton or less. So the loader capacity works for the most common lifting chores. You do need to go up to a M series if you have lifting needs that exceed a ton. I rarely do.

Maybe you would help me understand something: If you're not going to use or rent out 13 acres of SW Missouri Ozarks field why don't you let it grow into grass meadow, which would then support [scrub] trees, then decent trees? The grass would die back, you brush-hog the scrub, and are left with nice trees. Or mow it all and plant fruit trees?

I'm sure there are reasons I in Wisconsin do not understand though would like to understand.

I agree. But with the HUGE surge in popularity of IBC tanks for homeowner use, why release a new tractor/loader model that cannot pick up one of the most common items on small/medium “homesteads” (how I hate that term)?

First welcome to the forum. I have had my MX6000 with loader since June of 2021 and am way north of couple thousand hours at this point and time. No common problems I know of. Mine has never been back to the dealer. Most of my hours are put on with a three point carrier on it fixing fence and cutting cedars and then spot spraying the rest of the summer into fall. The first year I had it I run my seven foot bush hog with it some but the radiator screen on these is not good. I do most of my mowing with a bat wing mower and a cabbed tractor. Only things I don't like about the tractor is the smallest fuel tank. { I can't spray a full day on a tank of fuel}. Radiator screen plugging and the tractor is too light in the rear and I have three weights on each side and no I don't want liquid in tires on this farm. Over all I like the tractor and that comes from a guy with a lot of green tractors setting in the sheds.
