All,

The muffler on my B6200D looks like it is made to support some sort of heat shield, but I can't seem to find any such item, or any reference to such an item.

In picture 1 below you can see what I am talking about. This is a screen capture from YouTube, and the tractor is a B5100.

The rest of the pictures show my muffler and where I think the heat shield (or something) would attach.

When I see mufflers at Tractor Supply, there is never a heat shield. Same goes for most third party sales.

Is there a heat shield out there I am just over looking? Is a heat shield not common?

Thanks in advance.
Jim

I dont see the need for a heat shield, but some mufflers have them. I guess to prevent you from burning yourself. I guess if you feel it necessary it wouldnt be all that difficult to fabricate one. A large diameter pipe (think semi truck exhaust) and some slots or holes. Semi trucks use shields on the stacks, may help you with your search.

I never saw aftermarket heat shields available for the universal tractor mufflers.

Like Tooljunkie said, no need. But if you, think so get some expanded metal and bend on up.

I had one on my Ditch Witch trencher, and when setting on the back hoe seat my back was just 10"-12" away from the upright exhaust. I needed to get under some structural beams on one job that the contractor installed and forgot he needed a drain from the center of the structure to the outside. He was frustrated because of the problem. I removed the muffler (therefore the shield) to get in. From then on I made the muffler easily removable, so I removed the screen. I have never been burned by exhaust on that machine. My experience, but your mileage may vary.

You don't need a heat shield, take an IR thermometer, I doubt it'll get much over 200 degrees, on a warm day...:D:D
