I did this project back in 2021. Pole barn was pretty much unusable. Setting on the lowest side of the property, the dirt floor was always wet. Sometimes like a swamp. The floor was below an already low grade, a lot.
I filled it with ag. lime with my B2601. It smoothed out easily and packed pretty good.
I then used an airless sprayer to paint inside and out.
The lime worked great for my uses. Tractor and implements. Gardening supplies and tools and such.

nice to see it 'finished'..
as for the 'why ?'. Guy probably built it using what he could afford / acquire at the time.
I know someone who built a 50 x 70 shop, 2 real stories tall, insulated(spray) for about $5,000, 40 years ago. Yeah the concrete floor's a bit uneven and some places 2' thick, but have to admit the big friggin excavator hasn't hurt it.

What did you spray the outside with? Got some rust starting on a roof
Exterior was painted with Valspar Storm Coat.
If you're referring to the roof panels visible from the inside, those were the translucent panels that let light in from above. I painted over them from the top side. Making sure they were well sealed was more important than the minimal light they allowed in. They had yellowed a lot since 1970.
I installed a couple windows in the walls for light.

Looks god. Makes one wonder why it was built where it was and left as it was.
My dad had it built in 1970. I assume in that location due to the distance from the house.
Property was pastureland at time parents bought and built on it. I remember the folks saying over 100 loads of dirt was hauled in during house construction. I bet I saw at least 50 brought in throughout my youth.
I know dad had it filled and leveled with sand in prep for concrete. Did not get to follow through for health reasons. Prostate cancer.
The shape it deteriorated in to was a result of neglect, not by my dad.

Scottly The building really looks nice. I have rebuilt a fair amount of pole building over the years. In my area the post like to rot off a ground level have repaired them several ways over the years. The last one we did sits right by the road by my driveway to the house. It is a 40X64X13. It was built in the 70's and had another 16 foot added in the 80's on. It was built with used lumber homemade trusses and used power poles and a couple of them had rotten off at the ground level. That building had three slider doors in the side walls. We repaired the post's and put all new steel on and new headers in for doors, installed three over head doors. 9X8, 14X11,16X11. I put door openers on all the doors, it made a nice building out of it that I use every day.

Mine has round creosote poles. Little smaller diameter than the utility poles.
I was afraid mine had rotted. They seem pretty solid though. It does not shift or sway in high wind. Hopefully they will outlast me.
