M9540 has hydraulic leak from the output shaft at rear of tractor. I'm working on obtaining WSM but wanted to ask if that seal is serviceable without disassembling the entire tractor.

Super easy fix, you shouldn't have to pull anything but the seal to fix it. ;)

it is a little tricky to get the seal over the shaft without damaging it. Also check the vent in the transmission housing to make sure it's free/clear. If it gets plugged, it'll let the PTO seal leak among other things.

You can remove the entire PTO drive section by just unbolting it if you desire. Just make sure you drain the fluid beforehand. Just had mine off on my M9 last month. Took the 540 off and replaced it with a 540-1000 output. if you do take it off, be sure to clean the mounting surfaces of all sealant and reapply 3 Bond before you put the housing back on.

That would be like pulling the axle out of your car to change a tire, definitely not needed! ;)
I said 'If you desire'. As Lugbolt said, that is a touchy seal to replace because of the splined shaft.

if you happen to need a complete 540 unit I have one laying in the shop btw. Everything but the transfer shaft.

What Lugbolt was referring to, I'm quite sure, is to not nick the new seal on the splines.

The seal has to go over the splines no matter how you get to it. So no need to remove it all.

I usually cover the splines with the wrap of a pop can or this cardboard I have handy, then no contact with the seal and the splines.

Here's a picture of the rock shaft on my 730 I replaced last year, and the seal puller to get them out. Sorry, no pictures. Says my pictures are too large. Max size is 97.7KB

I am having the same issue with the PTO seal on my M9000. However, I would like to rule out a worn bearing. Any idea how much play there would be on the PTO shaft without the seal? I am able to move the shaft a little (1/4 inch or less. I was using the baler when the seal come apart and want to rule out major damage.

The shaft should just have detectable play, you can barely feel it and may or may not be able to see it.
